NSW Digital Strategy roadmap
The NSW Digital Strategy roadmap shows how the strategy will be kept up to date and aligned with the NSW Government’s vision. Key elements, like commitments and case studies, will help track digital transformation across the state.
Our approach
A plan has been set out to keep the strategy relevant in a fast-changing digital world. This plan is organised into ‘horizons’ that show what will be done and when.
What's included?
- A minor update each budget cycle to reflect any big changes in government digital priorities. The 2025 strategy update has been released.
- A major update every 18 months to include new department strategies, technologies and trends.
- Annual reporting on commitments to track progress.
Goals for 2026
A major update of the NSW Digital Strategy will be delivered by 2026. This update will:
- share yearly progress so everyone can see how digital projects are tracking.
- refresh the strategy to reflect new technologies, government priorities and budgets.
- align with the NSW Performance and Wellbeing Framework to improve outcomes for people, businesses and communities in NSW.
Delivering on the 2025 vision
To reach the goals for 2025, delivery against 5 key missions is required.
- Mission 1 – Make digital services accessible, inclusive and connected for everyone in NSW.
- Mission 2 – Use digital to improve service delivery, support the local economy and drive productivity.
- Mission 3 – Underpin trust in government through reliable, stable digital services and sustainable Digital Infrastructure.
- Mission 4 – Keep NSW safe and resilient during emergencies online and in-person.
- Mission 5 – Uplift digital capability in the public sector workforce.
Since the strategy launched in October 2024, some commitments have been updated. New initiatives have also been introduced to strengthen the commitment to using digital technology in safe, secure and inclusive ways.
Tracking progress
Progress will be reported to the Digital Transformation Board, with yearly updates to the Secretaries Board. Each mission will have its own working group to provide regular updates.
The 2026 update will align the strategy with the NSW Performance and Wellbeing Indicators to measure impact on people’s lives. It will also include quarterly updates to the Minister’s Office.
