School Visitor Check-in
Simplifying and streamlining school visitor check-ins
The School Visitor Check-in is a digital sign-in system for visitors and contractors at every NSW public school. Visitors and contractors check-in to schools using their ServiceNSW app or through the School Concierge app. This makes check-ins simple and fast and increases every school’s privacy and security practices. The system was developed by the NSW Department of Education in partnership with Service NSW.
Work is underway to enhance the current solution by integrating government compliance data, automating pre-screening and improving security measures. These enhancements are funded by the Digital Restart Fund.
Achievements
The School Visitor Check-in provides a streamlined, accurate and secure visitor record system for schools. The system removes the need for multiple, paper-based sign-in processes and enables real-time check-in and check-out. The digital solution has facilitated over 11.5 million check-ins, supporting more than 9,700 daily visitors since its initial launch in 2021.
Engagement
Extensive engagement was undertaken across key internal and external stakeholders—including numerous Department of Education divisions, Service NSW, SafeWork and regulatory bodies—through steering committees, roundtables, and targeted consultations. Input from principals, business managers, and even Department of Education employees who are parents or carers informed and validated the design of the School Visitor Check-in solution.
