Creating Safer Crowded Places

Testing innovative technology to improve public safety in crowded places
Funded by the Digital Restart Fund (DRF), the Creating Safer Crowded Places project is an example of the NSW Government’s commitment to using innovative technology to drive real impact in the community. This innovative platform draws data from the CCTV network, social media, and environmental systems to generate insights on crowd behaviour and mood while ensuring visitor anonymity.
Achievements
Sydney Olympic Park aims to keep the more than 10 million annual visitors to Sydney Olympic Park safe with the help of this technology.
This project will also:
- improve safety ratings at Sydney Olympic Park, leading to a corresponding decrease in safety incidents at large-scale events
- deliver operational efficiencies and ultimately, an improved experience for residents and visitors.
Engagement
The Creating Safer Crowded Places project is led by the Sydney Olympic Park Authority in partnership with Dynamic Crowd Measurement. The project has also collaborated with Smart Places, the Department of Communities and Justice and NSW Police.
