Providing NSW with real-time housing data for better planning, faster decision-making, and improved public services

The NSW Digital Housing Pipeline will create a centralised and comprehensive 3D dataset that spatially maps and tracks the progression of housing across NSW, from planning approval through to construction and occupation.

The platform will use applications made through the NSW Planning Portal to monitor and visualise housing delivery in near real time across the state. It will also bring together spatial (location-based) and planning data from different sources into a single platform.

The tool aims to help government agencies, councils, and planning authorities better understand housing trends, anticipate infrastructure needs, and make faster, better-informed decisions.

Achievements

The NSW Digital Housing Pipeline aims to improve planning and coordination of housing delivery by providing a timely, reliable 3D dataset across NSW by 2027. It will help government agencies forecast demand, plan services, and track housing supply. The project builds on existing Spatial Services capabilities for mapping and tracking land and strata subdivision development across the state. It will also leverage technology available through the NSW Spatial Digital Twin.

Engagement

To date, the project has engaged more than 25 stakeholders, including local councils, state government agencies, emergency services, and property development experts. Users were involved through surveys, working sessions, and feedback workshops. The work also involved close collaboration between various Department of Customer Service Spatial Services and Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure teams.
