A pilot to build awareness and user capability of the new Spatial Digital Twin Explorer

A capability uplift pilot was conducted between October 2024 and April 2025 and attended by diverse data users from across NSW. The aim of the pilot was to enable NSW Government employees and members of the public to leverage advanced spatial (location-based) data visualisation and tools, facilitating better data discovery, sharing and utilisation, which will lead to more informed planning and decision-making. The pilot also tested if an ‘at-scale’ learning program would be beneficial to help embed Spatial Digital Twin (SDT) across NSW Government agencies and councils.

A series of 7 learning opportunities (60-90 minutes) were conducted, focusing on SDT Explorer, Spatial Collaboration Portal and Foundation Spatial Data Framework (FSDF). Two open dialogue sessions were also facilitated to allow participants to provide feedback, ask questions and share their experience using SDT. Participation in the pilot included 187 people, and learnings were used to develop an at-scale approach for SDT.

Achievements

Pilot participants provided feedback via a survey and 94% said they would be interested in a future capability uplift pilot, 94% said they would recommend the pilot, 83% stated that they would like to work with Spatial Services to embed SDT into their organisation, and 72% stated they would like to partner with Spatial Services for SDT future functionality/user testing.

Engagement

Members of the Live NSW team supported the development and delivery of the capability uplift pilot.

Participants included data users from across NSW Government, emergency services, local councils and surveyors.
